[edit] Using MoWeSX on a non-writable medium

Is it really true that Wosx (in the current version available on this website) can automatically copy itself from a CD-ROM onto a hard-drive? Do I have to configure something in Wosx or is this feature not yet implemented?

This is right. There is no need to configure anything. Just burn the package on a CD --Admin 04:24 21 February 2007 (MEZ)

[edit] Support-Questions for MoWeS-Install with MediaWiki

Hello! I installed a complete package with MoWeS, Apache, php5, mysql5, IMagemagick, Mediawiki and Moodle. --Nyks 00:16, 21 February 2007 (CET)

[edit] ImageMagick

MediaWiki needs ImageMagick to resize images. I tried to configure it in the mediawiki/localsettings.php with

$wgImageMagickConvertCommand = "d:\ImageMagick\convert";
or
$wgImageMagickConvertCommand = "d:\ImageMagick\convert.exe";

It doesnt work ... I get this error-message: "Error creating thumbnail: convert: Unrecognized option (-resize)." Any ideas?`--Nyks 00:16, 21 February 2007 (CET)

ImageMagick sometimes is strange. Which version do you use? Is it the recommended version for MediaWiki? With TYPO3 (if I remember right) I set the path d:/path/to/mowes/ImageMagick. Try to output the command that MediaWiki uses and use it in the command line. --Admin 04:29 21 February 2007 (MEZ)
Thanks for your replies. MediaWiki uses IM to resize Images in wiki-articles ... a common task. I use the version included in the mixer-version of MoWeS. It seems to be "ImageMagick-4.2.9.tar.gz"?!?!
Under [2] I found a notice how to install IM under Windows; there is suggested "ImageMagick-6.2.5-Q16-windows-dll". --Nyks 14:31, 21 February 2007 (CET)
Update and solution: I downloaded and installed current version of ImageMagick-v6-Windows-Q16, an installed it (to a path without blanks!). I don't changed the system-environment-path, due to the MoWeS should be run from USB-Stick. Then i added to localsettings.php this: "$wgImageMagickConvertCommand = "..\..\ImageMagick6\convert.exe";" (relative path!). Perhaps anybody should update the included IM-Version in MoWeS ;) --Nyks 15:04, 21 February 2007 (CET)
Short explanation: Well the ImageMagick 4.2.9 is only there for TYPO3 since TYPO3 works best with it. Yeah the path without blanks is import (same for old ImageMagick). But the absolute path should be fine. Have fun. --Corni 03:23, 22 February 2007 (CET)

[edit] Command line

I want to execute a php-script from command line, so I opened a DOS-Prompt, changed to the folder \www\mediawiki\ and tried

php update.php

But the command failed, because the command "php" could not be found. Where is the php-executable stored, to execute this command? --Nyks 00:16, 21 February 2007 (CET)

The php.exe (I am not sure if it is included in the SE edition) resides in x:\mowes\php4 or php5 and is called php.exe. You must use the absolute path to make it work (or add environment variable to windows). --Admin 04:31 21 February 2007 (MEZ)
Thanks ... I was using the SE, which seems to do not contain php.exe. --Nyks 14:31, 21 February 2007 (CET)
Yeah removed it since it takes some more space and is actually not needed. --Corni 03:23, 22 February 2007 (CET)

[edit] MoWeS_Perl

Hi,

I have to say that the MoWeS portable web server fit exactly to my needs however I have a little problem... The web site I developed is based on perl scripts and the perl interpreter is not include in the MoWeS packages available... So how I can do to run perl on MoWeS ?

Hope there is a solution !

Thanks for help

Well actually this is one of the issues I am working at. Providing MoWeS with Perl. The problem is, that every perl script needs the path the perl interpreter. This makes it very complicated to bundle Perl with MoWeS and keep it portable.

Look at [3] --CHSoftware 05:02, 23 February 2007 (CET)

[edit] httpd.exe and php5ts.dll

First, I am running Windows XP (one case of Windows XP Media edition) in all of the following scenarios.

I have installed MoWeS II Portable in three places:

#1. Personal Desktop P4 running XP, IIS 6.0 and 2 instances of Apache (2.0 & 2.2)
#2. Personal Laptop P4 running XP Media Edition, IIS 6.0 and 2 instances of Apache (2.0 & 2.2.3)
#3. USB Stick.

On machine #1 everything works as expected. All programs run from C:\mowesportable

On machine #2 & #3 I receive an error AppName: httpd.exe AppVer: 2.2.3.0 ModName: php5ts.dll ModVer: 5.2.0.0 Offset: 000978e5

I have read that Apache 2.2.x needs a new DLL named phpapache2_2.dll loaded in http.conf, however, in attempting this, MoWeS does not recognize the new DLL.

Has anyone come across this issue before? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Actually this dll is included and resides in the apache bin directory. sounds like a copy error to the usb stick. --CHSoftware 05:09, 23 February 2007 (CET)

[edit] What is MoWeS Mixer Script & MoWeS Syncro?

Does anybody know what MoWeS Mixer Script & MoWeS Syncro is? They are both listed under The next steps but their pages are empty except a PayPal donate button. Anybody an idea? --203.10.59.63 03:02, 2 March 2007 (CET)

Actually it seems a little bit strange that there is no content... I am gonna ask Cornelius what he's planning. Dirk. --203.31.115.62 04:16, 5 March 2007 (CET)

[edit] CGI Programming

Question: If you want to learn CGI programming, is MoWeS Portable the tool you want to use or..?

Well currently unfortunately not because there is not yet a Perl package for MoWeS. But it will come some time :-) --CHSoftware 07:46, 5 March 2007 (CET)

[edit] Upgrade Mediawiki without losing files?

Is there an easy way to upgrade my MoWeS Portable MediaWiki to 1.9.x without losing all of my pages? If I just drop the MediaWiki.mowes file into the right place and run MoWeS.exe it deletes all of my data. Are there specific files I can backup and overwrite once the MoWeS install is complete? Or do I have to upgrade it without using MediaWiki.mowes? --Merkuri 05:01, 17 March 2007 (CET)

Hi Merkuri, at the moment should be easier to upgrade with the mediawiki package itself from [www.mediawiki.org] Have a look at their upgrade manual.
But you could try the following as well (please post if it works).
  1. Backup your MoWeS folder (just copy it somewhere else)
  2. Download the mediawiki.mowes. Place it in the MoWeS folder
  3. Run MoWeS and follow all steps (including uninstallation etc.) I think MoWeS will not delete the db.
  4. Then run the WIKI install tool that should upgrade.
Upgrading packages is a very difficult task since every software does it its own way. We hope to get it easier done when we have the MoWeS Mixer Script. --CHSoftware 09:54, 18 March 2007 (CET)
How do I run the install tool? After I do the MoWeS "upgrade" (i.e. uninstall and reinstall) I still have my old index.php page, not the wiki default. All of the links on it go nowhere. I don't know how to get to the wiki install tool. --Merkuri 15:22, 18 March 2007 (CET)
Scratch that... that's what happened last time I upgraded. For some reason this time the links on the index page still work! I have no idea why it worked this time, but not last time. It seems all of my pages are there. Some things are missing, like my logo, but that ought to be easy to fix. --Merkuri 15:26, 18 March 2007 (CET)
After playing around with it a little more, it's not working. I get an error when I try to edit pages. I'm going to start over.--Merkuri 15:41, 18 March 2007 (CET)
Make sure that you run the install tool of MediaWiki otherwise it will not work. You should find it somewhere like localhost/mediawiki/install/ Probably you have to rename your localconf.php to localconf.php.bak or something that the install tool will run. --203.147.0.48 07:39, 19 March 2007 (CET) Marc

[edit] How I finally did it

I feel like there must be an easier way, but what I ended up doing was:

  1. Use the steps here to export all of my pages.
  2. Make a backup of the entire MoWeS directory.
  3. Delete the MoWeS directory.
  4. Download and install a whole new MoWeS package including the new MediaWiki version.
  5. Reset my MoWeS settings.
  6. Re-create my MediaWiki user (since it's a personal wiki I only had one).
  7. Import my pages.
  8. Update my LocalSettings.php file using the settings from the old wiki version.
  9. Upload all my images.

This will probably not work as well for people with larger wikis or public wikis, but it worked for me. --Merkuri 04:39, 19 May 2007 (CEST)

[edit] MoWeSX - apache.exe does not exist. MoWeS cannot run without this file.

MoWeS portable worked fine but MoWeSX halts on this error - Also MoWeSX wouldn't work until I installed PHP4 (Although I had PHP5 on)as couldn't find php.ini

I checked the location mowes\apache2\bin and there is no apache.exe there even before MoWeSX was added?

Windows XP Professional - Updated

You MUST use the old packages for MoWeS X. MoWeS X will not (yet) work with the new packages. --CHSoftware 09:50, 18 March 2007 (CET)

What 'old packages' - I am new to this and only see one download for MoWeS Portable?

[4] --203.147.0.48 07:37, 19 March 2007 (CET) Marc

Copy httpd.exe to apache.exe in the apache2/bin folder. I renamed httpd.exe to apache.exe and it runs fine now --PentaMedia 9:00, 5 feb 2008

[edit] ASP on MoWeS possible?

Hi,

I like to use MoWeS te develop a small website during my daily train-journey. Will there in the future also a ASP plugin?

[edit] SQL Admin password?

I'm trying to run some of the maintenance scripts for MediaWiki, but it looks like they require that you have an AdminSettings.php file that includes the username and password of a SQL administrative user. I can't seem to find a username/password combo that works. Does anyone know the name and password of a default user in SQL that I could use for this? --Merkuri 18:43, 18 March 2007 (CET)

Hi, MediaWiki wants a user with a password but since MoWeS uses "root" without password this does not work. I solved it the following way: I installed phpmyadmin and created a new user (eg mediawiki) with a password and then I ran the mediawiki installation. --203.147.0.48 07:35, 19 March 2007 (CET) Marc

[edit] Option to start mowes.exe minimized

I have been wanting to run mowes.exe minimized upon startup. I tought it would be pretty cool to be able to use a command line switch or a flag in the mowes.ini to achieve this. Any thoughts about adding this feature in a future release?

Thanks!

- Peter Blaise says: I think if you run it from a shortcut, you can select that shortcut's properties and select Run: Minimized. I think running minimized is nice for a clean presentation (if everything runs perfectly), but I use MoWeS for development and I want to see everything. Let us know if the shortcut does what you want.

- Selecting minimized in the shortcut don't work.

[edit] I don't need MYSQL.

Why does MoWeS HAVE to have MSQL running.

Can I not just have apache and php4 or php5 running?

Thank you for your help.

Hi Thom, just use MoWeS X and remove all mysql stuff and just run the apache selecting do not start apache and mysql together in the options dialog. --CHSoftware 15:03, 23 March 2007 (CET)

[edit] Connecting to the RC server

Is it possible to connect to the RC server from off site, such as using another computer. I checked my router to make sure that port 8181(default port) is open. Then I try to connect to the RC server using my external IP, as opposed to localhost or my internal IP, from the computer I am running MoWeS X on. I am using Firefox and a popup appears saying "This web page is being redirected to a new location. Would you like to resend form data you have typed to the new location?" If I click yes then it goes to a page that says "No session token found." and if I say no it says "no password send" (I think it means sent)

Any help would be appreciated.--24.85.209.14 08:35, 26 March 2007 (CEST)

[edit] 7Zip has an error when unzipping...

While installing MoWeS Portable II, I twice received the following error message:

7Zip has an error when unzipping.

It referred me to an output log, which I could not find. I clicked OK and installation appeared to continue. Then after installation finished, I got the following warning:

Unknown(): Unable to load dynamic library 'F:\WebOnStick\php4\extensions\php_mbstring.dll' - The specified procedure could not be found.

Any thoughts? This is on a Windows XP machine.

Thanks.

--76.18.101.114 17:51, 15 April 2007 (CEST)

P.S. When I run MoWeS, I get the following
  • Apache 2.2.3 is running
  • PHP 4.4.0 works
  • MySql 5.0.24a-community-nt is running
  • ImageMagick 4.2.9 is available and works
And phpMyAdmin works. However, Mediawiki does not. I get this error message from it:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in F:\WebOnStick\www\mediawiki\includes\Exception.php on line 140
I downloaded the PHP *5* package separately and installed it. This fixed the php_mbstring.dll error. --76.18.101.114 03:41, 16 April 2007 (CEST)

[edit] phpMyAdmin requires cookies

Hi I recently started using MoWeS and I like it but I really need MyAdmin. I installed the package with the rest. I open my browser and go to localhost, select MyAdmin and at the top it says "Cookies must be enabled beyond this point". I tried to create a db and it works, but it reports that the field number was not entered even although it was.
Thanks,

[edit] PostgreSQL for MoWeS?

I have tried on multiple occasions to install a PostgreSQL on my MoWeS. Unfortunately, I don't have the required expertise to successfully do this. Has anyone successfully done this?

[edit] Joomla Installed but cant use it as Admin

This is a really usefully application development platform, and im interested in using it to create Joomla and Moodle websites. I have initially set up a single install with only the server appps required to run Joomla, which it did great.

But i didnt monitor the installation, and dont see any way to access the Joomla site as Admin, i can find no reference to the Password which was used to create the Joomla Database in MySql, so cant log in to the Joomla site either.

Is there an easy way to address this problem, as the Joomla Forums dont give much help.

I found this eventually, it depends what you search for i suppose:- Q. How do I recover my admin password? A. You cannot recover the existing password, but you can reset it to a new password. http://help.joomla.org/component/option,com_easyfaq/task,view/id,48/Itemid,268/

When you start mowes the first time there is written in a RED box that the login is always "admin" with the password "password" so open your eyes and read.

[edit] MoWeS Local to Web Server

I would like to know how to connect to the computers of the Local network computers to Wos USB server.

Can I config my local host to be a Web host?

Thanks

        • it gives no solution for that problem? the easiest way would be to add a general ip-address or something like that... But Wos as an webserver would be really nice!

I too would like to know how to allow a LAN subnet 192.168.1.0/24 to use the apache server. I get permission denied errors. I have MoWeS running from C: and allowed through all firewalls. WAMP server can do it with their 'put online' option but I would like to use MoWeS. I have tried editing http.conf with no success though I might have got it wrong. Please advise _SteveH 070707

[edit] MediaWiki first starts without my pages

This is more of an annoyance than a real problem, but I was just curious if anyone knew why it did this and if there's anything I can do to stop it from happening.

I have MoWeS Portable on a USB stick that I use mostly on two computers, one is my home PC (Windows XP Home) and the other is my work PC (Windows XP Pro). I can't recall if I've seen this happen anywhere else, but on my home PC when I first start up MoWeS Portable and my MediaWiki page comes up I see the Main Page I created and it appears on first glance that everything is working fine, but if I actually click on any of the links for pages I know exist it tells me there is no wiki page by that name. If I stop and restart the MoWeS server it will work fine. This does NOT happen on my work PC.

Note that a little while ago I completely reinstalled MoWeS on the stick (with a few different components, like the newer version of MediaWiki) but this problem started happening before the reinstall. I was hoping the reinstall would fix this problem (though it wasn't the only reason I reinstalled), but no luck. It didn't always do this, but it started around the time I was unsucessfully trying to upgrade MediaWiki on my old install and ended up doing a whole lot of, "backup MoWeS directory, try to upgrade MediaWiki, fail, copy backup MoWeS directory back to USB stick, wrinse, repeat." The first time it happened I panicked and nearly thought I had lost all my data, but now I know all I need to do is restart it. I thought all the copying and re-copying of the MoWeS directory had damaged it somehow, but since it still happens after doing a complete reinstall (to a different directory on the stick, even) I don't know anymore.

What could be happening? Could there be a problem with MySQL on the first boot of MoWeS? --Merkuri 15:01, 22 May 2007 (CEST)

When I used WAMP, I was able to add a standard HTML website folder (no PHP or MySQL) by simply dropping it in the WWW folder. [edit] Documentation for MoWeS Portable

I tried to start my test web, and didn't know which folder to use -- whether on my stick or on C: drive. I'd rather run from c:/inetpub/wwwroot/.

BTW, on Vista, I am unable to get localhost to resolve at all.

My biggest problem though, is there good documentation that I can read?

[edit] No firewall warnings dialog keeps popping up

I'm trying to install MoWeS Portable and keep getting a dialog:

"MoWeS Portable has started the MySQL server to import SQL data of packages.
Please make sure that there are no warnings of your firewall concerning
the MySQL server. Then click OK."

Well, there weren't any warnings, so I clicked OK. A few seconds later the dialog reappeared, so I turned my firewall off and clicked OK again. But the dialog keeps appearing, no matter how often I click OK ...

When I finally gave up, the installation window wouldn't respond to the Cancel button either.

Any thoughts on what could be the problem?

Anna --206.248.136.214 09:33, 23 June 2007 (CEST)

I had this problem, and I found that it was due to another webserver running on my computer at the time (it was InstantRails if that makes a difference). I closed that webserver, and then a Windows Firewall message came up - so I clicked UNBLOCK and it worked. I suggest you try checking (and closing) for any other webservers running on yout computer at the time if you encounter this problem.

Soumya

Tried Anna's suggestion. I am getting the same popup but I did not have any other webservers running. Any thoughts. I may have a solution that worked foe me, and that was to end processes for any services that you may have running, Example SQL database services antivirus services http/https services and so on, just press your CTRL and ALT and DDELETE keys at the same time and goto processes and end such conflicting services or programes, Hope this helps
